This article aims to present and systematize the main foundations of scientific methodology, addressing types of research, their classifications, stages, and applications in the contemporary academic context. The study discusses different methodological approaches, qualitative, quantitative, and mixed, as well as technical procedures, including bibliographic, documentary, field, experimental, survey, case study, action research, and participatory research. In addition, it analyzes fundamental stages of the scientific process, such as problem definition, hypothesis formulation, sampling, data collection instruments, data tabulation, and analysis. The study also incorporates the discussion on the use of Artificial Intelligence in scientific research, highlighting its role as a support tool in optimizing investigative activities. It further emphasizes the importance of ethics and transparency, especially in accordance with guidelines from CNPq, which recommend the explicit declaration of the use of such technologies. The results indicate that scientific methodology remains essential for knowledge production, although it is constantly adapting to technological changes. It is concluded that the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence contributes to the agility and efficiency of research without replacing the critical and analytical role of the researcher.
