Abstract

Inclusive education is a guiding principle of Brazilian educational policies, based on the right to education for all and on the appreciation of diversity within the school environment. This study aimed to analyze the role of the pedagogue in consolidating inclusive education by discussing its theoretical, legal, and pedagogical foundations, as well as the challenges involved in implementing inclusive practices in schools. This qualitative study was conducted through a literature review based on books, scientific articles, and legal documents addressing inclusive education, teacher education, and the organization of pedagogical work. The findings showed that the pedagogue plays a fundamental role in connecting public policies, school planning, continuing teacher education, learning mediation, and the development of inclusive pedagogical practices. The analysis also demonstrated that curriculum adaptations, diversified teaching methodologies, formative assessment, and collaborative work promote student participation and contribute to more democratic school environments. However, challenges remain regarding professional training, working conditions, limited pedagogical resources, and institutional and cultural barriers within schools. It is concluded that the consolidation of inclusive education depends on the integrated work of educational professionals, with the pedagogue acting as the coordinator of pedagogical actions aimed at ensuring access, permanence, participation, and learning opportunities for all students.
