The Importance of Information Technology Management in the Digital Society

Abstract

Information Technology Management (ITM) has become a strategic element for the functioning of organizations in the digital society, requiring efficient systems for managing information, processes, and technological resources. This article aims to analyze the relevance of ITM in contemporary organizations, relating concepts of management, technological innovation, and digital transformation to the field of Software Engineering, based on the theoretical contributions of Peter Drucker, Manuel Castells, and Henry Mintzberg. This is a theoretical, qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study based on a narrative literature review. The results indicate that information has become a central strategic resource, that digital transformation is linked to the logic of the network society, and that strategic planning in technological environments requires continuous adaptation. It was also found that IT governance frameworks and Software Engineering practices are essential for the practical implementation of these references. It is concluded that ITM is indispensable for organizational development in the digital society and must be conducted strategically, ethically, and innovatively.
